*Example only, using the 72.5¢-per-mile IRS standard rate in effect at the start of 2026. Rates change, sometimes mid-year — MileAudit values each drive at the rate for its date. Good to know
General information, not tax advice. Rules depend on your situation — confirm with a qualified tax professional.
- Driving from one job site to another during the day is generally business. How trips from home to a job site are treated depends on whether you have a regular place of business and whether the site is temporary — worth confirming with your tax pro.
- Receipt scanning picks up the merchant, amount and date; well-known stores such as Lowe's and Ace Hardware are recognized by name.
- If your business runs five or more vehicles at the same time, the IRS doesn't allow the standard mileage rate for them — you'd use actual expenses. MileAudit's per-vehicle totals still support either method.
- Each MileAudit account is for one person's records. On a crew, each driver keeps their own account and exports their own reports.
Frequently asked questions
Can I track more than one truck?
Yes. Add each vehicle you drive and assign drives to it; reports show miles by vehicle.
Can it read receipts from the supply house?
Yes. Scan a receipt in the phone app and the merchant, amount and date are read on your phone. Faded or unusual receipts may need a quick correction before you save.
Are there categories for tools, rentals and subcontractors?
Yes — built-in categories include Supplies, Equipment Rental, Repairs & Maintenance, Contract Labor and Inventory, and you can add your own.
What if I forget to sort my drives?
The Tax Health check flags unclassified drives and missing purposes, and optional phone reminders nudge you when drives are waiting.
