*Example only, using the 72.5¢-per-mile IRS standard rate in effect at the start of 2026. Rates change, sometimes mid-year — MileAudit values each drive at the rate for its date. Good to know
General information, not tax advice. Rules depend on your situation — confirm with a qualified tax professional.
- How your mileage is handled depends on how your business is set up. Sole proprietors and single-member LLCs usually report it on Schedule C; owners of corporations are often reimbursed by the company instead. Your accountant will know which applies.
- Either way, the IRS expects each business drive's date, destination, business purpose and miles, recorded at or near the time.
- If the company reimburses you, a per-mile rate at or below the IRS rate with a proper log generally keeps the reimbursement tax-free to you. MileAudit lets you set your own rate for a year.
- Keep business and personal drives clearly separated — MileAudit asks you to classify every drive.
Frequently asked questions
Can my accountant use MileAudit's reports?
Yes. Export drives and expenses for any date range as PDF (with totals by category and vehicle) or CSV (every drive's date, locations, miles, vehicle and purpose).
Can I set my company's reimbursement rate?
Yes. You can set your own per-mile rate for each year. Leave it alone and MileAudit uses the IRS rate for each drive's date.
Does MileAudit support employees or teams?
Each MileAudit account is for one person's records. Team members who drive for the business can each keep their own account and send you their reports.
Is my data private?
Yes. Your drives, location history and receipts are never sold or shared with advertisers. Receipt images are kept in private storage that only your account can access.
