Privacy Policy
Last updated: October 7, 2026
MileAudit ("MileAudit", "we", "us", or "our"), operated by Justus Outdoors LLC (Southport, North Carolina, USA), provides a mileage-tracking and recordkeeping application (the "App"). This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and the choices you have. Your privacy matters to us — especially your location data, which we treat as a responsibility, not a product to sell. Your use of the App is also governed by our Terms of Service.
Information we collect
Location information
To detect your drives and calculate mileage, the App collects location data from your device, including while the App is in the background. This may include GPS coordinates, speed, timestamps, and derived routes. Location is collected only to detect and record drives for your mileage log.
Motion activity (iPhone)
With your permission ("Motion & Fitness"), the App reads your device's motion activity history — for example, whether the device was in a vehicle, walking, or stationary — to determine when a drive actually started and to avoid recording walks as drives. This activity history is read on your device only; it is not uploaded, stored on our servers, or shared. Only the resulting drive times are saved with your drives. You can turn this off at any time in your device's settings.
Notifications
If you allow notifications, the App posts notifications from your device (for example, "Drive recorded") so you can review new drives. These are generated on your device; no notification content is sent through our servers.
Trip and vehicle information
We store the drives you record or that are automatically detected — including start and end locations, distance, duration, date and time, category (business or personal), purpose, and any notes — along with the vehicles you add.
Expenses and receipts
If you use the expense features, we store the expense details and any receipt images you choose to add.
Account information
If you create an account or enable cloud backup, we store your email address and authentication details needed to sign you in and sync your data, plus the name and business name you choose to add to your profile (both optional). If you use Sign in with Apple, Apple gives us an identifier for your account and an email address, which may be a private relay address if you choose to hide your email.
Subscriptions and payments
If you subscribe to MileAudit Pro in the iPhone app, Apple processes the purchase. We receive the transaction details Apple signs (such as the plan, purchase and renewal dates, and status) to confirm your subscription. If you subscribe on our website, Stripe processes the payment; we store your Stripe customer and subscription identifiers and the subscription status. Your card or other payment details are handled by Apple or Stripe and never reach our servers.
Device and usage information
We may collect basic technical information necessary to operate the App, such as device type, operating system version, and app version, and information needed to diagnose errors.
How we use your information
- Detect drives and build your mileage log automatically.
- Let you review, categorize, edit, and organize your trips, vehicles, and expenses.
- Generate mileage totals and year-end reports, and provide CSV exports.
- Provide optional cloud backup and sync across your devices and our companion website.
- Operate, maintain, secure, and improve the App, and respond to support requests.
Why the App uses background location
Automatic drive detection requires access to your location while the App is not open. Without background location, the App cannot detect drives on its own and you would have to enter every trip manually. You are always in control: you can enable or disable tracking at any time in the App's settings, and you can decline the background-location permission and use manual entry instead.
How your information is stored
Your data is stored on your device. If you choose to create an account and enable cloud backup, your data is also stored with our cloud infrastructure provider, hosted in the United States, so it can be backed up and synced across your devices and our companion website.
How we protect your information
We use reasonable technical and organizational measures designed to protect your information, including encryption of data in transit, authentication controls, and account-level access rules intended so that each account can access only its own data. Receipt images are kept in a private store and served through temporary, expiring links. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, however, and we cannot guarantee absolute security. You also play a role: use a strong, unique password and keep your device and login credentials secure.
How we share information
We do not sell your personal information, and we do not share your location history with advertisers. We share information only in these limited cases:
- Service providers who help us operate the App under obligations of confidentiality — for example, mapping and geocoding services (Google Maps Platform) used to display maps and resolve addresses, and cloud hosting/database providers used for optional backup and sync.
- App distribution platforms (Apple and Google) for delivering and running the App.
- Payment processors (Apple for in-app purchases and Stripe for website payments) to process and manage subscriptions.
- App update delivery (Expo) — when the App checks for an update, Expo receives a random installation identifier and your device's operating system, used only to deliver updates and count which devices received them. It is not linked to your account.
- Legal reasons — if required by law, regulation, or valid legal process, or to protect the rights, safety, and security of our users or the public.
- Business transfers — in connection with a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets, subject to this Policy.
Data retention
We keep your data for as long as you use the App or as needed to provide the service. You can delete individual trips, vehicles, and expenses in the App, and you can request deletion of your account and associated data (see "Your choices" below). We may retain limited information where required for legal, tax, or security purposes.
Your choices and rights
- Turn tracking on or off at any time in the App's settings.
- Control location at the OS level — you can change or revoke the App's location permission anytime in your device's system settings (for example, set location to "While Using" or "Never," or turn off Precise Location). Doing so may limit or disable automatic drive detection.
- Access and edit your trips, vehicles, and expenses directly in the App.
- Export your records as a CSV file.
- Delete your data or account — you can delete individual records in the App, and you can permanently delete your entire account and its data from the App's settings (or the companion website). This removes your associated data from our systems, subject to limited retention noted above. You may also email admin@mileaudit.com for help.
U.S. state privacy rights
Depending on your state of residence (for example, California and other states with comprehensive privacy laws), you may have rights to know what personal information we hold, to access or receive a copy of it, to correct it, and to request its deletion. We do not sell your personal information, and we do not "share" it for cross-context behavioral advertising. To exercise any available right, contact us at admin@mileaudit.com; we will verify and respond as required by applicable law, and we will not discriminate against you for exercising your rights.
Children's privacy
MileAudit is intended for adults and is not directed to children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided us information, contact us and we will delete it.
Not tax advice
MileAudit is a mileage recordkeeping and tax-preparation support tool. It is not a tax-filing service and does not provide tax, legal, or financial advice. You are responsible for the accuracy of your records and for consulting a qualified professional regarding your taxes.
Changes to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will revise the "Last updated" date above and, where appropriate, notify you in the App.
